------THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS------
'Twas the night before Christmas,
And all thru the town
No shoppers were bustling,
No snowflakes sailed down.
Unadorned were the trees;
No wreath graced a door;
And no one took time
To collect for the poor.
For the town we describe
Bore the name Bethlehem,
And the Nazarene couple,
No one noticed them------
Just an earnest young carpenter,
Of no special worth,
And his travel-worn wife,
Ab out to give birth.
No room in the inn------
Soon a stable gave rest
To the mother with newborn
Held close to her breast.
His bed was a manger,
His mattress of straw,
And some shepherds soon came
To behold Him with awe,
In the town some were sleeping,
And some were awake,
And some sought the morrow
And the paths they would take.
For how could they know
With the passing of time,
Men would sing of that night:
"Holy night! Night Divine!"?
