I'm following Jennifer Suhr, U.S Women's Pole Vaulting Champion. She is a local girl, well a woman now and a hottie.

looking good on the medal count... hope they don't get taxed $6,000 per gold though.... saw the 10k run Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba - that girl has a natural rhythm style and perfect form & figure for it....
so smooth she just turned it on on the last lap - there she went and was at ease as she took off... very impressive how easy she made it look - was the best ;-}}}

Those who have sponsors, endorse products and win prize money. That is their earned income, and they pay taxes like everyone else. Well some folks get away with...never mind.

i heard that on the news - my impression was it was on the metal weight of the medal but you are right there is a perk award and sadly they can be taxed on both it seems...
These people have worked hard to be the best of the best - i think they should not be asked to give back part of that success -- they earned this moment ... just never thought about it - but now we know - In a way we all luv that moment and share in their success - without any of the sacrifices ;-} we ought to exempt this "Winner's" award income - imo -
"The U.S. Olympic Committee awards $25,000 to gold medalists, $15,000 to silver medalists and $10,000 to bronze medalists. Winners owe federal income taxes on those cash prizes. They could be liable for taxes on the value of the actual medals, which could be up to $9,000 per gold medal"
Thinking about Phelps - the most winnings medalist ever... with 21 now I do believe 17 gold(x$25k - $9k for the shared success tax=wow)... he is retiring now idb... ehhhh, I'd give him his medical Marijuana card too - for those sore muscles ;-}}}
