I have a PC that is 3 yrs old, it has been laying around not being used, today I dusted it off and went to get some old info off it and now i can't get it to power up, it is sooo dead, just curious to know if anyone has any clues on this, it was working fine & the battery was being charged for the 3 yrs

Not enough to go on, I'm afraid. If your system isn't salvageable, talk to hubby about making the hard drive an additional drive (if from a desktop system) or an external drive (if a desktop or laptop, you never did specify).
Just my .28 chip.

You can try removing the battery and putting it back in and then press the power button.If that doesn't work, remove the battery and use the AC adapter only to start the computer.That's all I can think of to get your problem solved. I hope it works.

If its a laptop - I've just started to remove the battery as I buy it, if I use it as a Desktop - in one location or always hooked up to the power supply... cuz you just kill the battery by topping them off all the time from the power supply recharging them(Lithium batteries have an x number of charge ups and after that they r worthless) so when u want or need to use a battery - it won't hold a charge anymore.
Imo- batteries are not worth replacing- cuz usually they r too expensive when you can buy a box store deal new for about 2x's the price of the replacement battery...(i buy the cheap laptops -$250 - $300)
Well you don't need the battery in at all...(like "ILo" stated), so...
1st thought does ur power supply have a light on it to show its on and working?
Do you have another power supply from a newer laptop that is same requirements and plug?(test your power supply there and/or use it on the laptop)
Do you have another battery from newer comp to try on it... (same cross test)
Do you have a car adapter that might work? (they are handy and worth getting)
Thing is you need to try to get a power source you know is producing power to your laptop...
if that ain't it... you got problems that a tech would have to help you with cuz worst case you can remove the harddrive to get the info... maybe you'll need an adapter cuz most laptop harddrives have a different pin connect than a Desktop has...
There might be a fuse somewhere in your comp or power supply the went south...(just a guess)
But usually things power up if you put good power to them and if they don't -- you have a project - which is most of a time written off as a learning experience cuz the cost of a tech would make it not worth doing - unless you really value that info ;-} ;-}
Good Lick... ;-}}
but I'd always volunteer my time if you could fly me out and... just kidding i was starting a new dream there and i was bringing chocolates ;-}}}

don't toss it.... you can still access that harddrive even if that comp is trashed... still hard to say what is cause -- oh be careful leaving things plugged in unattended - they can start fires...
but.. i'd say ask a tech savvy ...good friend.... and i would not let that comp out of ur sight as you know things do find their way on the net... so keep a watchful eye and trust no-one --- that's not to paranoid is it ;-}}

Thank You for that info i was going to toss it but u and Bo say Noooo...But my problem is that we will have to remove the contents, I am in a small area where everyone know everyone, I can't risk that, so Bo & I will need to figure this out...For no one knows of my secret except him & all of you.

Usually, its really easy to find the hard drive and remove it - esp if your gonna toss it anyway - it has stuff on it you dont want to get out on its own... if you dont want to save it to extract the contents - then remove it to destroy the hard drive...
just turn it over and u'll see the panels that cover the memory compartment and sometimes the hard drive compartment... some even have Hard drives you can swap out like the battery...
just have fun learning with it - you'll be somewhat surprised how little the stuff is and how well they fit it all in ;-}}
Good luck and who knows maybe the next time it will turn on just 1 more time ;-}}
Oh and don't worry Io wont tell anyone....
Well, except those who see those few promo's I did a while back ;-}}

and once you remove the hard drive, a sata hard drive enclosure kit should be about $20-30, if that. Should come with a USB cable and you have an instant external drive. Your local geek can install it in minutes. Bo can install it in minutes, and no one needs see the contents.

As far as I know, it's bad to recharge a battery for too long. Now, 3 years!

Here is an example of a sata hard drive enclosure kit
http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Hard-Drive-Case-Enclosure/dp/B003AM70XU/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1335874822&sr=8-7
Also here is an idea as to how easy it is to put your drive in a hard drive enclosure.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qBI6XM42eo
Now depending on what type of laptop it is you can look up how to remove your hard drive on you tube. I think there are 3 different ways they are installed. But I would search for..... "name of laptop" hard drive removal. That should show you a video of how to remove it from your laptop.
And for the price its a pretty cheep way to get an other portable hard drive if your going to trash the old lappy
Sorry I had to edit as I noted I was using the Canadian site and not the US one.

And another example of a installation of a laptop I thought was interesting as they remove a part from the hard drive. The hard drive came from a HP laptop, And if I remember right you were using a HP laptop at one time. Not sure if that is the one but if it is .....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&NR=1&v=ZxUmwqvW6Sg
I like you brought this up Lacey, there may be a number of people that will learn and now be able to save their hard drives if it comes to that.
Now I have never done this so I take it that you could remove the operating system from the "new" (old) now external hard drive to give you more room to save files. So McP or any others that may have done this ...true?

I have always said... helpful perves & knowledgeable too !!! lol
I've got a question about my desktop & maybe you guys can help me with it ??? My old one... I don't wanna scap it though, tons of info on it that I can't access, I had it built & I let it get a virus... I didn't have the antivirus software on it that I have on my others now...
I do trust the tech whom I had build it, but it will cost me to have him sift through & save the info instead of just wiping it & rebooting...
I wonder how do I get it on & clean it up ???
I would totally run it, it is better for what I need to do, well until it dies... lol
Then I would have my tech rebuild it... too complicated ??? It's running XP & I have the backup disk (drivers ?) & system restore... no, I didn't ever plug it back in once it caught a virus, the virus may have shut it down... My tech had me using a free version... I have since purchased the pay version for all my computers...
Smooches,
Nilou Achtland
pps. Going to post Titties & Tushies !!! ty, guys, I'll be back !!!
