"MONTPELIER STATION The administration of President Barack Obama has brought more charges against Americans under the Espionage Act than did all previous administrations combined, said Jesselyn Radack, director of national security and human rights for the Government Accountability Project.
Six cases have been brought against individuals for leaking information the federal government considered confidential, she said Sunday during the first day of a two-day conference titled Whistleblowers, State Secrets and National Security, held at the Center for the Constitution at Montpelier.
The cases feed a growing tension between the governments wish, citing national security, to withhold information from the media and the press claims that often such information does not propose a threat to national security and should be available to the public, said Leigh Middleditch, a member of the Montpelier Foundations board of directors.
Sundays panel, which included representatives of the national media, former government security officials and First Amendment activists, began a study of the current questions regarding the Espionage Act by revisiting the early history of the country and how the Constitution and Bill of Rights came about.
Vincent Blasi of the Columbia University Law School described in detail how James Madison, known as the Father of the Constitution, came to value public opinion as the most important component of the governments system of checks and balances.
Without the First Amendment, the sensorial power would be in the government over the people, not in the people over the government, Blasi said, quoting Madison.
The program continues today as two panels consider hypothetical cases of whistleblowing to dissect the fundamental questions concerning the First Amendment and protection of national security involved in the cases brought by the Obama administration."

Emperor Obama decrees that the Ag. Dept. should get water to the Drought ridden live stock... and puts a whopping $30 million dollars to this stupid idiot idea of waste and political supporter pay-off panderism...
I had stated b4 one of the biggest problems with Ag is this socialist ideology that they can set quotas and create a more efficient market than the free market with its naturally balancing decision making - which actually sets the best balance if people have equal access to information...
So by using Ag for social services like WIC and welfare - "to feed the poor" we have actually increased prices and created the left wing dread - "Corporate Farming".
Hell another goal of the wacko left is to give animals rights and stop killing horses and cattle for food... what did that do - created starving horse - wothless to most except those wacko left horse rescure organizations who profit form the starvation practices the left created...
As for beef - the industry has moved to south America - exactly where the left wants to take over - the rain forrests - which are burned and turned into Ranches for the demand of the American meat market - spread the wealth after all - the Obama Motto...
See when you examine the outcome of the lefts socialist attempts - everytime you see failure - except for the fact - they can bitch about the next cause - they created...
Corpoate Farming and Ranching -- created by billions given to Farmers and ranchers as "support" -- hell just like banks dont need support to do banking... farmers don't need support to keep farming...They make the best decisions if they know the market forces and demand - you can't predict weather but you can predict demand pretty well... and for weather - they have this great cost of doing business thing... crop insurance.... Government tries to provide price insurance - which ends up costing us billions in taxes and hidden food costs... so you think that steak is expensive - well its probably imported... just look at the produce department - half or more of that now is imported too and what's local you paid addition tax money for... the loaf of bread... yup you paid more than the sticker price for it...
Obama the fool who has no concept about Ag Business - thinks $30 million will make a difference - it will only be $30 million more wasted money - but it looks politically good - as if he cares...
Truth id Drought is not really about the water for the animals - cuz people without a water source sold them by now... drought is about lack of fiber for the cattle to eat - water you can get... fiber is harder... there just isn't any anywhere anymore at an affordable price to justify keeping the cattle... these decisions Ranchers think about if they have no aid... they get rid of the herd at the best time - they cut it to a bare min. at the best time...but if you offer the thought of aid... they hold on to crap till its worthless then the government pays too little too late and they fail - another farm bought up by the loss leader Corp.
This ideology has killed Ag in America - all for political gains... not it is pitched as great - it is not... Corp lobbyists and left wing wackos both bad this ideology but for different although mutually beneficial gains... they say the farm bill passed the house - that is a bad thing... it won't pass the senate... but it will with some left wing wacko riders attached to it and who loses WE do...
Wasted money - continuing a failure ideology reducing supply and creating poor economic balances... WE lose...
Think ur gas price is high now - add to it an increase of price for corn produced alcohol which they add 10% of to your gas... corn increases gas prices, increases meat prices, increases other food prices - even of bread - which is made from wheat but less wheat is produced cuz the land is used for corn... increases the price of your clothes - same thing - less cotton produced cuz corn was planted on that land... Economics its not that hard... simple complements and substitutes - supply and demand... balance is best achieved in a free market with equal access to the best info...
What should Governments role be... gathering and interpreting data... providing info... broad based assistance... satellites weather and gps... that is the infra-structure Government supplies best and the best role for Government watching how they spend our tax money - to our benefit not our detriment...
We need food... we supply it to the world... we could feed the poor - rather than force a farmer to plow under a crop - let insurance pay for it and sell what is good at a min cost auction price - to private food assistance programs - a viable market solution...
Government is waste and imbalance - never realistic and always too little too late... Social political goals of these Community Organizers is nothing but failure and eternal generational enslaved poverty...
Do you see the foolishness and failure and sheer stupidity of Obama declaring the Ag Dept commit $30 million to get water to the drought areas... How much would it cost to truck in water to how many head at 8 pounds per gallon... into areas where there may not be good roads - for an animal that needs to survive and drinks about 30 gallons a day - depending on various factors like weight and temperature and calving... for how many days... will 30 million keep how many cattle alive - while the cost of fiber is way more than the cost of water... Stupidity of Obama and those that follow him... who don't know and believe Obama does... Obama is the worst President ever - Vote Obama out!!!
