The Jolly Rogers!!!!
Looking For Something Special? XXX FliX Videos
Description: I MUST preface this... In my arrogance, I THOUGHT EVERYONE in the Marines and/or Navy KNEW the ORIGINAL squadron was... VF-17. The were the ORIGINAL Jolly Rogers!!!! Our heritage and our legacy come from the DIRECT descent! Thank you Sun for totally reminding me that I left our the squadron number that began it all! Sorry about the spotty quality but, this video is compiled from various personal photos and videos from: Navy personnel who served in official capacities as Navy photogs; from personal videos and snaps from on-board shipmates; from some out-board websites and various connections. The "Fighting 84th" is known as the "Jolly Rogers" and is one of the oldest and most honored squadrons in the Navy. Heritage goes all the way back to WWII as VF-17 (hence the shots of the old Corsairs) and has continued all the way up to the 103rd. MANY "old time" 84s (the 17s could give a shit! LOL) are NOT happy about the "re-commissioning" of "Jollys". The new squadron (VF-103) has NONE of the heritage nor the straight-through history of the ORIGINAL "Jolly Rogers". They simply "adopted" the squadron as their own. The call sign "Victory" was one proudly held by all in the 84th. The 103rd has YET to earn it!!!!!!!! That being said, at least the "Jolly Rogers" can live on in spirit! The 84th became the ULTIMATE threat to all enemies of the US when the F-14 Tomcat came into service. She was (and always will be, in my humble opinion) the GREATEST fighter-interceptor EVER built. She was a BIG, BIG bird... agile but totally mission-ready! NO other aircraft in the inventory was (or is, to this date) as effective or as versatile as the Tomcat. Grumman "Ironworks" produced the ULTIMATE fighter/interceptor and the US let her go WAY before her prime!! Had not politics and the almighty dollar gotten in the way, she would STILL be serving aboard ALL US carriers to THIS DAY. She was just that good!!!!!!!!!! So was the 84th! Proud legacy, proud heritage, PROUD AMERICANS, ALL!!!!!!! Go Navy, Go Tomcats, Go 84! Anytime, Baby! PS, any 84s... contact me! Anyone else, email if you have any questions or comments! "P"... call sign "Challenger"
