First Toon!!!
3:06PM on June 25, 2008

Whoo hoo!I received my first toon at 3:30-4:00 this morning and it looks fabulous! I was worried that it wouldn't look natural enough to suit me; I am so picky when it comes to people drawing things for me! LOL! However, I am sure most of you are curious as to the drawing itself.
Basicly, it is in honor of my now 25 foot Colombian Red-Tailed Boa, whose name is Cleopatra(Cleo for short). I have raised Cleo since she was roughly 8 inches in length which made me approximately 12 or 13 years old. Cleo was literally my room mate until my junior year of high school when I moved from North Carolina to Kentucky and left her in my father's capable hands. When I left she was 21 feet long and eating small deer. She weighed roughly 300 pounds, give or take.
Cleo and I had an understanding that was rather simple. She had free reign of my bedroom, just as I did, but when she was hungry or getting ready to shed she crawled into my bed and I went to the couch. LOL! It was at these times that I didn't push her; during these times she was really aggressive and I didn't want to risk injury to her or myself. During my senior year, my dad called and says he needs something out of my trunk, which was in my bedroom...well Cleo's room. I said get it but if she hisses stay oiut. It was fair warning that she was either shedding or hungry. Needless to say my dad didn't listen and Cleo crushed his legs. Two weeks later, I donated her to the Ashville Zoo. There people have had the opportunity to interact with her in a way that has never before been done with a snake of her size at this particular zoo.
Two days ago, I received an email from my cousin that Cleo had passed away one day last week. Thus the reason I had the snake put into my toon. Snakes have been a natural part of my life since I was 6 years old, and I hope that my children will one day love and respect them as I do.Cleo will forever hold my heart and I will always be grateful for the things that she taught me.
Reading this, I realize that I speak of Cleo as if she were a person. However, I know she wasn't, but that doesn't change the fact that she had a personality. I guess the reasoning I have is simple. She made it clear whether she was ill(she would hiss), hungry( crawl up in my bed), shedding (hiss, crawl in bed, strike at movement), or even if she liked you(like-crawl up on you and settle, dislike- curl up into a striking position and hiss until you left her domain). There was only one person that I can recall her disliking and that was my stepmotheer and I must admit that I shared the feeling!
Anyway, I have rambled on enough. I hope this sheds some light on my new toon and even reveals a little more about me. Much love!
