Internet addiction: Cyber-relationships
11:50AM on February 22, 2012

When used responsibly, the Internet can be a great place to interact socially, meet new people, and even start romantic relationships. However, online relationships can often be more intense than those in real life. Our fantasies are given free reign and the idea of being with our online love can exceed all realistic expectations. Since few real-life relationships can compete with these wild, fantasy relationships, the Internet addict will prefer to spend more and more time with their online friends.

Another problem is that about 50% of people online lie about their age, weight, job, marital status, or gender. When online friends meet and the real-life person fails to match the online persona, it can create profound emotional disappointment.

I would like to mention and not forget that when you do meet with someone from the internet and start a relationship and get to know the person, how they can NOT be what they portrayed while they were via the internet, as what you thought or seemed they were. You find out many things you wouldnt have otherwise if not for meeting them and finding out some really creepy things about that person. All the lies they have told you and secrets they have kept behind your back. For instance their sexual hangups and or their other online relationships with other married women and the sick things you find out are numerous. Especially NEVER fall in Love with them. I have learned all this from experience alone. In due time it will come back to haunt the one who did the betraying and lying and secrets and the game playing..Great Blog!!

Lots of people can relate to this blog right here because the person whom u think u know online is just a fantasy and i personally wish people would just settle for and be ok with online relationships when they realize u are never going to meet them they curse u out and cut u off not all but some. I dont know maybe i was in the wrong for leading people on and making them believe i was going to meet them and NEVER DID LOL. My saying goes never take the internet to serious if its too much just log off!

You make some valid points... You should also mention the more shady aspects of identity thieves, malicious hackers, con artists, kidnappers, child molesters, rapists, wannabe cyberpimps, and other miscreants that make it diffivult to engage in relationships, on or offline... Kool topic
